As you’re shopping for your next vehicle, you have many different options out there to choose from. Even if you’re focusing on models you’ll find at your favorite used Chevy dealer, this still leaves you with an incredible selection of cars, trucks, and SUVs.

To make things easier for you, we thought it would be fun to look at four of our favorite used Chevy SUVs that you should consider as you shop. We will check out the Chevy Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, and Blazer—these two-row models are perfect if you’re looking for something small and affordable to get around each day. We’ll see what each one offers and highlight key model years you should consider as you shop for your next ride.

Chevy Trax – Subcompact and Incredibly Affordable

The perfect place to start exploring used two-row Chevy SUVs is with the Trax, since it’s typically seen as the entry-level vehicle in this lineup. First released for the 2015 model year, the Trax is a subcompact model and is generally the smallest option when looking at SUVs in the Chevy lineup.

That means this is not a great choice if you need to have four people with you frequently and want something spacious inside, although its interior is quite comfortable. If you prefer a small option or are shopping on a tight budget while looking for your next SUV, then a pre-owned Trax is an amazing pick with a lot to offer.

Following its introduction, the first generation of the Trax ran through 2022, which means you’ll find quite a few of these when looking at used SUVs. When you’re checking out the Trax, we suggest going with one from 2017 or later. Chevy gave it a refresh and update that includes new exterior styling, a redesigned interior with an array of great features, and other impressive changes.

If you’re interested in more refined features and options, then look for a 2024 Trax. Chevy introduced this second generation, a bit larger, with an impressive engine and big displays inside. You might’ve noticed that the first generation ended in 2022, and the second started in 2024; there’s no 2023 Trax available, so keep that in mind.

Chevy Trailblazer – Small and Sporty for Daily Driving

If you’re looking for a small used SUV, but the Trax doesn’t quite meet your needs, then the Trailblazer is a great one to consider instead. This is also a subcompact SUV, like the Trax, but it has a number of features and options that you won’t find with that other model.

First released for the 2021 model year, the Trailblazer hasn’t been around very long, and there were a lot of people who thought Chevy might discontinue the Trax when this SUV joined its lineup. Rather than restricting things, however, Chevy has kept both models around to give drivers a wide range of options, even those who aren’t looking for a larger, more expensive model. This is quite nice when you’re shopping for a used SUV since it provides you with a lot of freedom.

Since the Trailblazer has only been around for a few years (Chevy sold an older midsize SUV called the Trailblazer about 20 years ago, so don’t be confused by that), any used model you find can have some very nice features on it.  You can find two different engines, so keep that in mind, along with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive on used Trailblazer models.

There are also different trim levels to look for, like the RS with its street-inspired styling and the ACTIV model that’s ideal for an outdoor lifestyle. Chevy gave the Trailblazer a refresh and update for the 2024 model year with a redesigned exterior, larger interior displays, and more great features—remember that as you look at used options.

Chevy Equinox – Compact Design, Big Features Throughout

If you’re looking for something a bit larger, without going overboard, then the Chevy Equinox is a great one to consider. Introduced for the 2005 model year, the Equinox has been around for more than 20 years and has proven to be an incredibly popular option during that time. This is important to note, however, because it means you’ll find a lot more older Equinox models than something like the Trailblazer we just looked at. You don’t want to go that far back when shopping for a used SUV; even if you’re on a tight budget, you’re much better off getting something more recent that you can count on for more years of excellent service.

The first generation of Equinox ran through the 2009 model year; a second-generation Equinox kicked off with the 2010 model, which ran through 2017. Chevy gave the Equinox a refresh right near the end of this generation, for the 2016 model year; if you need something inexpensive, then models from these couple of years could be worth looking at. You’re better off, however, going with a third-gen Equinox; this generation ran from the 2018 model year through 2024, giving you fantastic, modern options to consider. This third-gen model received a refresh for 2022, so keep that in mind since you’ll find updates inside and out for these models.

Chevy Blazer – Terrific Midsize SUV to Enhance Your Drive

Finally, the Chevy Blazer is the largest option to consider if you’re interested in a two-row SUV. It has a spacious interior and a wide range of excellent features. Chevy offers larger models like the Traverse, Tahoe, and Suburban, but they’re all three-row models (those last two are some of the biggest SUVs on the road, making them ideal for large families).

The Blazer is the perfect balance between something with a lot of room inside for you to take advantage of, but with a sleek and stylish design that’s still easy to drive and enjoy each day. You can find powerful engines on the Blazer, including a 308-hp V6 engine that is an amazing choice if you’re looking for something that feels remarkable on the road.

The Chevy Blazer is still in its first generation, so you’re not going to find as many different options out there as you will with something like the Equinox or even the Trax. There have still been some updates and changes throughout this generation, like the addition of a new towing package for the 2021 model.

Similarly, a 2.5L I-4 engine was initially available for the Blazer, but it was discontinued starting with the 2022 model. Chevy gave the Blazer a proper facelift and mid-generation update for 2023 with new exterior styling, a larger standard infotainment display inside, and more great features. So if you go with a model from the last couple of years, then you’ll find the best technology and options available.

Find a Used Chevy SUV You’ll Love Driving

As you can see, even if you narrow things down to just these four models from Chevy, you still have an incredible range of options available to you. The model year you’re looking at has a tremendous impact on the kinds of features you find, especially when it indicates a new generation or an update/refresh.

This is why it’s so important to have these things in mind as you’re looking at different models, since they can dictate what features you’ll find, especially those on select years and trim levels. That’s also why it helps to shop at a dealership that puts your needs first, with friendly people ready to help you navigate all of these options and find what you need. Once you know what you’re looking for, then you can count on our helpful team at Hendrick Chevrolet to make sure you get a used SUV that you’ll love driving for many years.
